APC warns Abia, federal lawmakers not to claim credit for Buhari’s projects

From Chuks Onuoha, Umuahia

All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter has said ongoing school feeding programme, being run in schools in the state is purely APC-led Federal Government initiative.

In a similar development, the party frowned at  Federal lawmakers from Abia State for  taking credit for the rehabilitated Umuahia/Ikot Ekpene Road, saying it was also APC-led federal government project. The party, therefore, warned the state government not to lay claim to the above mentioned projects  as they are President Muhammadu Buhari’s.

The chairman of APC Elders Council in Abia  State, Chief Godfrey Onyemaobi made this disclosure  in Umuahia, the state capital while reacting to sponsorship of some  projects which were  claimed by the the state government .

He dismissed  the impression that the school feeding programme was that  of the  wife of the governor, or any other arm of government in the state.

Onyemaobi, who is a Second Republic lawmaker pointed out that the feeding programme had enhanced and increased school enrolment in the state.

He, however, lauded the Federal Government for introducing the programme, which he said was aimed at feeding pupils and students, especially the poor in schools. “I heard Abia State government saying on radio that the school feeding programme being handled by the wife of the governor, is the project of the state government.”

That kind of impression is wrong. Everybody in Nigeria knows that the school feeding programme is the project of the federal government. The federal government pays for the whole thing, using the state government to execute it,” Onyemaobi said.

He explained that  no state, including Abia should take credit for that feeding programme.

“It is the project of APC-led federal government. So, I want Abians to know the truth from falsehood.

“ The school feeding programme is being sponsored by the federal government by President Muhammadu Buhari. It has never been a project of any governor.  That emphasis should laid”.

“The rehabilitated Ikwuano, Umuahia/Ikot Ekpene road is a federal government project and reconstructed by the federal government, not PDP government or by federal lawmakers from the state. If a federal lawmaker  is taking credit it, I don’t know and in which capacity. Is it from his own pocket or from the state government pocket? It is federal government’s  project as well. He should give credit to the federal government for listening to the cries of our people. That our roads are bad, and they came and rehabilitated it. I expect him to thank the federal government for the palliative work on the road than laying claims on it,” he said.
