Mikel undergoes successful surgery
Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has undergone a successful surgery in London.
The Nigeria international suffered an injury while playing for his Chinese club Tianjin Teda two weeks ago, and has been out since, before going under the knife and will now go into rehab as he starts his recuperation and journey back to fitness.
The 30-year old posted a picture of himself on a hospital bed after the surgery with the caption: “Surgery went well, rehab next… can’t wait to be back ???????? shame I can’t be on the pitch fighting with my team #TianjinTEDA #TEDAFightingFightingFighting ”
Following his injury and surgery, he will now miss out of the Super Eagles’ planned training camp in the French island of Corsica next month, where they will play a friendly against a Corsica XI, and a possible clash with Burkina Faso. The training camp is geared towards preparing the Eagles for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June.
The Midfielder flew to London where he had the surgery following a lingering abdominal strain (per sports.enorth.com.cn) that kept him out of three consecutive Chinese Super League matches for Tianjin Teda FC.
He was initially ruled out for three weeks after news of the injury emerged, but after the surgery, no return date has been set.
