Super Sunday: Arsenal, Barca show class

It was indeed a super Sunday in European football as Arsenal and Barcelona showed class in the English FA Cup semi-final and the El Clasico respectively with Arsenal defeating Manchester City 2-1 in extra time while Barcelona through their mercurial striker, Lionel Messi punished Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo winning 3-2 at the Bernabeau to go top of the La Liga table.

However, Aaron Ramsey has said that Arsenal wants to win the FA Cup for boss Arsene Wenger and admitted the players let him down at times throughout the season.

The Gunners booked their 20th FA Cup final thanks to goals from Nacho Monreal and Alexis Sanchez who cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s opener just after the hour mark.

Wenger has won the competition six times and Ramsey says the players want to capture another title after a poor season. “It was important to win today, to have something to look forward to. But now we have another seven cup finals to try and get into the top four,” Ramsey told the BBC.

In the El Clasico, Lionel Messi scored his 500th goal for Barcelona in all competitions by netting a dramatic late winner for Barcelona. The Argentina international had gone into Sunday’s clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on 498 goals, after his double in last weekend’s Liga win over Real Sociedad.

However, he reached another landmark figure in a career littered with records when he scored twice in Madrid to send Barcelona top of the table after a 3-2 victory.
