FG seeks solution to insecurity in schools
From Fred Ezeh, Abuja
Federal Government yesterday expressed concerns over the growing cases of insecurity and other social vices in tertiary institutions, particularly government-owned institutions.
To this end, government has charged school managements to identify the unique nature of their challenges and develop “water-tight” solutions that would end such challenges discomforting respective institutions
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, gave the charge in Abuja yesterday when he addressed deans of federal tertiary institutions and their deputies at a one-day workshop, with the theme “Towards Effective Security and Safety on Our Campuses.”
Represented by the Director, Tertiary Education, Fatima Ahmad, the Minister told the gathering that the workshop was part of security seminar/safety workshops lined up to sensitise the management in the tertiary institutions about security in the institutions.
He reminded them of their critical role and responsibilities, particularly in addressing challenges facing students in their respective institutions: “Permit me to throw the challenge to the ivory towers to fashion out durable solutions to the seeming intractable security challenges facing the country.
“I have no doubt that, with the immense capacity and sagacity of our intellectuals in our institutions, these challenge would soon be history.”
