Tributes as political associates, supporters attend Adeleke’s Fidau

Political associates, supporters, government officials yesterday paid tributes to the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke during the eighth day Fidau prayer organised in his honour amid tight security.

The first civilian governor of Osun State, who represented Osun West Senatorial District in the Senate, died last week in Osogbo, the state capital at 62.

Thousands of guests, including family members, friends, well-wishers, students, youths, community leaders, traditional rulers among others attended the event held at his Ede country home.

The guest lecturer, Chief Imam of Offa, Kwara State, Sheik Usman Shehu, admonished Nigerian politicians to imbibe the late senator’s legacies and make life meaningful  to the people.

He also urged them to serve with the fear of God, peace, honesty and love for one another, especially in their dealings with their fellow human beings who voted them into power. 

The cleric, who described the late Adeleke as a great political icon, who had contributed meaningfully to the lives of the people of Osun State, also called on political office holders to use the Fidau as an avenue to amend their ways with God, noting that death was inevitable.

Earlier, Secretary of the League of Alfas and Imans in Osun State, Sheik Nurudeen Gbolahan, prayed for the repose of the senator’s soul and asked the Almighty Allah to grant him Aljarna fridau. 

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Moshood Adeoti, who represented the government, described the late senator as an icon in the state who would forever be remembered for his landmarks achievements.

In his remark, former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola said the Adeleke left his footprints in the sands of time and urged his family members and the people of the state to immortalise him in many ways possible.

Also, former Oyo State governor, Alao Akala said  the deceased served with the fear of God and was generous to the people, noting that he would continue to be remembered for the legacies he set in his life time.

The late Adeleke’s younger brother, Ademola Adeleke, who spoke on behalf of the family thanked governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State among other government officials for their support since the demise of the political icon.

Others present at the Fidau included Aregbesola, Deputy Speaker, Nigeria House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff, former speaker of the House of Representatives, Olubumi Eteh among others.
