New York: Dr Henry Bello named as suspect in hospital mass shooting
Henry Bello, listed online as a “family medicine” doctor at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, was named by a law enforcement source as the suspected gunman who shot at least three doctors inside the hospital Friday afternoon.
NYPD officers speaking over police radio during the shooting also named Bello as their lead suspect.
The family physician was was recently fired from his job at the hospital, a law enforcement source said.
The shooter was killed at the scene, the NYPD confirmed.
According to our source, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As many as six people may have been injured in the mass shooting spree, which played out over two floors of the hospital Friday, our source said.
NYPD officers said over police scanners while the shooting was still in progress that the gunman was possibly wearing a white lab coat and carrying an assault rifle.
Panicked social-media dispatches from inside the hospital Friday indicated that the facility had been locked down, with patients and employees hiding out in hospital rooms as they listened to the terrifying sound of muffled, nearby gunfire.
And after the gunman was killed, video showed people being evacuated onto the street.
