8th Senate best with 96 Bills in 2 years -Adeola

Senator representing Lagos West District, Solomon Adeola has said that the current Nigerian Senate has passed 96 bills in two years, more than the previous sessions of the senates.

Senator Adeola disclosed this on Tuesday in Badagry, South West Nigeria during his second Town Hall meeting with his constituents, made of 28 Local Council Development Areas in the state. He also used the programme as platform for rural empowerment.

According to him, the 8th Senate has received about 394 bills in two years of which 96 of them have been passed into law.

“In slightly over two years so far, about 394 bills have been presented to the 8th Senate with majority of these at advanced stages of processing into legislative enactments.”

He explained also in relation to the previous Senates, the 5th Senate received 370 bills, the 6th senate had 255 all in four years respectively.

He reiterated that in terms of bills’ passage, the 8th Senate already towers above the previous ones with the 5th senate passing a total of 65 bills in four years, 6th senate, made 23 bills, the 7th senate had 28 bills all in four years, while the 8th senate polled 96 bills in two years.

“These bills are either assented to, awaiting concurrence by the House of Representatives or awaiting assent of the president.”

The senator told his constituents that last week, the senate passed 29 Constitutional Amendment Bills, raising hope of positively amending some parts of the constitution.

Also, the 8th Senate received some 195 requests from the presidency in the form of confirmation of executive appointments, approval of loans and other executive functions, adding that so far over 188 of such requests have been ratified with just seven outstanding.

Narrowing the performance index down, he also told his constituency that of the 394 bills presented so far, 15 of them were by him while he co-sponsored many others like the bill seeking Special Status for Lagos State by Senator Remi Tinubu and the Bill Against Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Educational Institutions by Senator Omo Ovie-Agege.

“On pro rata basis among the 109 Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria of the 8th Senate, your senator stands tall in this aspect towering above the average of four bills per senator,” he stated.
