Court adjourns alleged N4.4 land scam case to Aug. 17

A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Thursday, adjourned an alleged land scam case of N4.4 million till August 17, for hearing.
Three businessmen – Namfe Gambo, Mahmud Mayaki and Okpe Williams – of Kagini, Abuja, are standing trial on a four-count charge of joint act, breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the Magistrate, Mrs. Olubunmi Achegbulu, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in the like sum.
Achegbulu said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 07, while the other must be a businessman.
She adjourned the case at the instance of the prosecutor to enable him open his case.
The prosecutor, Mr Chijioke Ekezie, told the court that one Yakubu Gana wrote a petition on May 26 to the Police Headquarters, Zone 7, Abuja, on behalf of one Aliyu Isah.
Ekezie said that the defendants conspired and sold plot number 1948 of about 1200 metres at Kagini, Abuja, to Aliyu Isah at N4.4 million.
He told the court that when a search was conducted at the land registry it was discovered that the defendants were not the owners of the property.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 79, 312, 309 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
