Emohua: Rivers inaugurates peace committee

In furtherance of steps to ensure lasting peace in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State Government has inaugurated a 36-member peace committee.

Inaugurating the committee in Port Harcourt, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chukwuemeka Woke, said members of the committee were selected from repented cultists, youth groups and stakeholders.

He urged the committee to work diligently to restore peace in Emohua, facilitate peaceful co-existence and development in the council.

“I want all repented cultists to know that crisis can never bring development. It can only bring destruction to the community.

“Let everyone come out and move Emohua forward like other councils in the state where people have shunned cultism and violence,” Woke said.

On his part, former special adviser to the state governor on Amnesty Programme, Sir Ken Chinda, urged the youths to shun violence and embrace peace to attract investors in the council.

He thanked the youths for accepting the peace accord and asked them to abide by the declaration to ensure that peace reigns in Emohua.

Chinda said there should be no more violence, no more killings, cultism and kidnapping in the area.

“I want to thank God that today we are here to reconcile the various groups in Emohua council. They have sworn to make peace and abide by the peace declaration with a view of opening the doors for investors to come in.”

A youth leader in the area, Chibuzor Chibike thanked the coordinators for initiating the peace committee among the various groups and urged all the men and women of Emohua to always pray for peace.

Another youth leader, Harvest Azundah, urged members who are still in the bush to come out and make peace, saying peace concerns everyone in the society.
