PDP: Makarfi inaugurates caretaker committees for Borno, Kebbi, Ogun chapters
• Ogun committee, a slap on judiciary –Kashamu
From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday inaugurated caretaker committees in three state chapters of the party.
The sates are Kebbi, Borno and Ogun with Abdulahi Wali, Abdulmalik Mahmud and Tunde Odanye appointed as chairmen of the caretaker committees in the three chapters, respectively.
Makarfi said the inauguration of the caretaker committees was in compliance with the decision of PDP National Convention, which dissolved the executives of seven state chapters of the party and mandated the national leadership to set up interim leadership for the affected states.
He explained that the executive committees of the states were dissolved in a bid to ensure unity in the party, owing to sharp divisions among stakeholders in the affected states.
The PDP leader added that the party remains open to reconciliation with aggrieved members and called on stakeholders in other states where the executives were dissolved to quickly harmonise their positions.
Meanwhile, PDP chieftain, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has described the inauguration of a caretaker committee for Ogun State as a slap on the judiciary.
In a statement made availiable to journalists in Abuja last night, Kashamu said the dissolved Ogun State executive of the PDP had a judgement in its favour, which the national leadership never contested.
Besides, the senator, who represents Ogun East Senatorial district in the National Assembly, said the caretaker committee, which was inaugurated yesterday by Makarfi is lopsided.
