Pro-Buhari rally shut down Jalingo
From: Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo
The Taraba State Chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) Integrity Group, on Friday, shot down parts of Jalingo, the state capital, in a solidarity match to welcome back President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical leave in the London.
Addressing the crowd, Nigerian envoy to Trinidad and Tobago, Alhaji Hassan Ardo Jika, recalled that the group had previously held major prayer for the President while he was away for medical attention and now that he was back in good health, it became expedient for them to show him solidarity.
Jika said that President Muhammadu Buhari was not only the symbol of the party but also the hope for the future of Nigeria.
He said the match was to welcome the President back and register their acceptance and support for his policies with regards to anti graft war, fight against insecurity and economic reformation as well as the insistence on the indivisibility of Nigeria as an entity.
“We are glad that the president is back in good health. We are particularly happy that he is not distracted and is showing good spirit to continue with his prime projects to fight corruption, insecurity and reform the economy.
” This is why we have come out today in our numbers to welcome him back and identify with him on these moves to move our great country forward. The oneness of Nigeria is not negotiable”, Jika said.
Also speaking, the spokesman of the group, Mr. Aaron Artimas, noted that “people are excited that the president is back and such rallies have been going on around the country. In Taraba, its not just a welcome back match but to spur him to do more for the country.
“Other states have even declared public holidays to celebrate his homecoming but in Taraba, you know that this is a PDP state and the government may not be so inclined to identify with the President so openly and so we have to take the initiative to make sure that Taraba state is not left out”.
The solidarity match which started at the Ministry of Works Roundabout at 10:00 am continued to the states party secretariat through the Market Road before proceeding to the state office of the APC Integrity Group at Makami area of the town.
Some of the motorists who spoke to our correspondent said that the rally had caused huge delay for them but the reasons for the rally was worth the inconvenience.
