Repairer gets N65, 000 bail for alleged theft of N63, 000 cellphone
A 35-year-old phone repairer, Rasaq Oguntoye, who allegedly stole a phone worth N63,000 was on Wednesday in Lagos granted a N65,000 bail. Oguntoye, who resides at Abule-Oba, Magboro, Ogun State, is facing a charge of stealing before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, who granted Oguntoye bail, asked him to also provide one surety, as part of the bail conditions. Layinka said the surety should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 7, for mention. Earlier, Police Prosecutor Donjor Perezi told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 30, at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos. Perezi said the accused stole a Tech Cameo C9 phone, which the complainant, one Samuel Okorie, gave him to repair. “The accused absconded with the phone for over four months, until he was tracked and apprehended by the police,’’ he said. Perezi said the offender contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
