St Eve West African Fashion Week 2017: Forging New Era for African Fashion

The forthcoming fourth edition of St Eve West African Fashion Week is expected to bring together a number of artists on one platform, the organizers have said.
St Eve Magazine, organisers of the event, said the event would also feature related arts such as modelling, hair styling, photography and makeup artistry.
Evelyn Okere, publisher of St Eve magazine said: “We are going to bring together the diverse communities in the fashion industry. Everyone thinks fashion is all about designers. But the model, makeup artist, hair stylist, illustrator, fabric designer are also very important,” she said.
It was gathered that this year’s edition, tagged ‘Fashion on the Street,’ seeks to unearth, display and nurture the creativity of young students and non-students across Nigeria and alongside top African designers.
“We have realised that most of the fashion trends all over the world got their inspiration from the street––roads, market, plants, flowers. When you walk along the street, the people and things you see inspire your creativity. Hence, St. Eve is focusing on discovering creative individuals from the street and giving them a platform to shine. We are aware there are thousands of undiscovered designers, models, photographers, hair stylists, make-up artists looking for the right opportunity,” she said.
An audition slated for August 4 will facilitate the selection of designers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists and photographers from each zone to compete for the grand finale in Lagos. The winner will walk away with N500, 000, with two runners up winning N250, 000 and N125, 000 respectively. The auditions will be held in the North, East, South and West.
Okere said winners will also be promoted locally and internationally.”
After the audition, a master class, with the theme, ‘Future Fashion CEO’ will hold on August 24 in Yaba. The competition, she said, would then hold the following day.
“The young ones are going to design, and everyone is going to see their handiwork on the runway. The judges will decide the best and winners will get their prices. The main event will hold on September 8 and 9, 2017 at the Eko Atlantic City.
St. Eve, a quarterly publication whose major focus are health, beauty, and fashion, has successfully organised several fashion events and concerts, including the 2012 ‘Summer Jam Fest’ with Rick Ross. It also organised the 2013 ‘St Eve Magazine Fashion On The Terrace,’ and the ‘St Eve West African Fashion Week: Fashion In The Savannah’ at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos in 2014.
Okere promised the 2017 St Eve West African Fashion Week would be a phenomenal show for guests and a life-changing opportunity for participants.
“We also plan to showcase garments of over 30 designers from different countries in Africa. We are working very hard to be Africa’s biggest fashion brand, capturing innovative thoughts into a sellable reality. This time we want to present a ground-breaking runway,” she said.
This year’s fashion week, she added, will also see the launch of an empowerment project for the physically challenged. “That will give them opportunities to play a role by producing for designers and earning a living from the items they make,” she noted.
Olajumoke, the bread seller-turned- model, will be the face of the event as well as a participating model on the runway.
