Yari promises bandits hell
From Mohammed Munirat Nasir, Gusau.
Zamfara State Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar, has threatened to deal decisively with bandits who have been disturbing the peace of the state, as he expressed dismay over the recent pockets of attacks in some parts of the state by some miscreants.
The governor, who described the attacks as dastardly and inhumane, vowed that his administration would not condone such unwarranted attacks on innocent citizens since it was capable of breaching peace in the state.
Speaking at the end of the emergency security meeting yesterday in Gusau, the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, said that the state security council also condemned the attacks and resolved to take proactive measures to handle the situation.
He added that the council agreed to deal ruthlessly with any faction that refused to embrace peace by accepting the implementation of the agreements reached during recent peace talks.
Muhammad said: “The security council resolved to continue with the peace dialogue embarked upon by the state last year, which led to the restoration of law and order in the state. The council also resolved to employ the services of more security agents such as police, Army and other security operatives to deal with the recent situation.”
Before the recent attacks on some communities in Anka, Bakura and Maradun local government areas, the state had been enjoying relative peace, following the deal brokered between the bandits and the local vigilantes in December 2016 by the state government.
