Ogun Customs Command laments attacks on operatives

Customs Area Conptroller, Ogun State Command, Hassan Gangua, has lamented the incessant attacks on the men of Customs Service by suspected smugglers at border areas, urging communities in the state to support customs against smuggling.
This is even as he explained how smuggling activities deprived the nation of huge revenue. He made this revelation while appealing for the support and cooperation of traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the fight against the menace of smugglers among their subjects.
Gangua disclosed that despite the daunting economic challenges the nation is facing, the Command had generated over N906 684, 498.26 between January and February this year from Excise Duty on seized items such as vehicles, rice, frozen products, edible oil, among others.
He assured that the Command was working assiduously towards achieving and even surpassing the monthly revenue target.
His words: “The tireless efforts by the officers and men of the Command yielded a total of 344 seizures with duty paid value of N219, 813, 485.00 between January to 26th March this year.”
Reacting to the outcry that greeted the recent raid and seizure of rice and vegetable oil stores at Sango, Ogun State, he said the NCS had the mandate to seize suspected smuggled items at any location in the country.
