Russia 2018 W/Cup qulifiers : Bassogog, Broos plot Super Eagles fall
By Monica Iheakam
Cameroonian forward, Christain Bassogog, has declared that Nigeria’s Super Eagles must fall at home, this is even as Indomitable Lions head coach, Hugo Broos has maintained his bullish stance that his team must pick at least four points from Nigeria to stand any chance of qualifying for 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Bassogog, one of the fastest player in the Cameroon squad, said there is so much at stake in the make- or -mar scenarios in the forthcoming double header with Eagles on September 1, 2017, insisting that Cameroon is boosting of a young squad primed for victory to reignite their hopes of making it to Russia next year.
“Nigeria are a strong team,” he said. “They have very good players and many of them are playing in Europe. But we must defeat them if we are to maintain our qualifying hopes. We should take the game to them. We need to fight to defeat them.
“Our players are young, but we are strong as a team,” he said of Cameroon’s progress under Belgian coach Hugo Broos. “He is a good coach. He knows what the players are good at so he can get the best out of us. In this team, everyone has his chance, “ Bassogog told FIFA .com
In the same vein Hugo Bross , has expressed confidence in the ability of his players to rise to the occasion and deliver the killer punch against Nigeria in Uyo and Yaounde.
“I was surprised by the events of the last few days in Cameroon. I do not have a comment because it does not concern me. I’m here for both games against Nigeria. I hope that these events will not disrupt or influence these two games,” Broos told Camfoot, referring to Cameroon’s FA crisis for which FIFA had to intervene.
“These are two important matches. And even after that there will be Zambia and Algeria, four important games. If we still have the chance to qualify, we must take at least four points out of six against Nigeria. If that is not the case, I think it will not be possible to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. It will become very difficult.”
